The Canadian Federal Business Class

The Federal Business Class applicants include: Investors, entrepreneurs, self‑employed persons.

The Business Class Immigrant program was designed to attract immigrants who have abilities and resources to invest or establish business in Canada and are expected to support and strengthen the development of the Canadian economy. The Business Immigration Programs seek to attract business-experienced individuals to Canada.

Offer opportunities to experienced business persons to obtain Canadian permanent residence as:

  • Investors who have a minimum legally acquired net worth of CAN $1,600,000 and are willing to invest $800,000 into Canadian government or other designated securities;
  • Entrepreneurs who plan to own and manage Canadian business that creates employment for Canadian citizens and residents;
  • Self-employed persons who plan to work for themselves and are in position to make significant contributions in cultural activities, athletics or farming; 

 

British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program Business Immigration Stream

(BC PNP Business Immigration Stream)

The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program Business Immigration (BC PNP) accelerates the permanent residence application process for experienced business persons and their family members who want to settle in Canada permanently. The Business Immigrants component of BC’s PNP considers applications from experienced business entrepreneurs who plan to invest in and actively manage an eligible business in BC, Canada.

It allows nominees to apply for Permanent Resident status through Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) even under the fast-tracked Provincial Nominee stream – which can be faster than applying through many federal immigration streams.

Business Immigrants fall into one of three categories:

Business Skills
Regional Business
Strategic Projects

Each of these categories has different requirements for the minimum personal net worth of the applicant, the amount of investment, the geographic location within BC and the number of Canadian employees in the proposed business. Applications to establish or purchase and expand a business in BC must meet the following eligibility criteria and meet the requirements of one of the three categories of the Business Immigrants Stream (Business Skills, Regional Business, Strategic Projects):

The primary purpose of the business is to earn profits from active income from the supply of products/services;
The business’ sustained commercial viability must be probable;
The business must provide economic benefit to BC by contributing to one of the following:
increasing the exports of goods/services;
increasing value-added manufacturing, processing, or primary resource activity;
increasing BC tourism;
increasing research and development and technology commercialization;
creating innovative approaches to traditional businesses;
servicing an unserved regional market;
transferring skills, technology, and know-how to BC.

Applicants in the Business Skills Category must have:

A minimum net worth of CDN $800,000;
A minimum investment of CDN $400,000 to establish the eligible business;
A minimum ownership of 1/3 of the equity of the business;
To create a minimum of 3 new jobs for Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents;
The skills and experience necessary, successful business experience, and an active on-going management role in the business.

Applicants in the Regional Business Category must have:

A business project located outside the Vancouver and the Abbotsford Metropolitan Areas;
A minimum net worth of CDN $400,000;
A minimum investment of CDN $200,000 to establish the eligible business;
A minimum ownership of 1/3 of the equity of the business;
To create a minimum of 1 new job for a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident;
The skills and experience necessary, successful business experience, and an active on-going management role in the business.

The Strategic Projects Category allows foreign companies establishing a presence in BC to bring in key foreign professional, managerial, or technical staff (up to 5) who intend to become Canadian Permanent Residents. Companies in this category must:

Make a minimum equity investment of CDN $500,000;
Create a minimum of 3 new jobs for Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents for every nominee applicant put forward by the company;
Demonstrate that the nominee applicants are essential to the proposed business;
Demonstrate that they have a record of good business practices.
